Raised in Kansas City, Teresa Johnson, is an artist that grew up with creative parents that encouraged her to create art from a young age. After earning her BFA in Painting from Emporia State University she then went on to earn an MFA in Photography from Kansas State University. While in graduate school she also spent an equal amount of time exploring printmaking and teaching herself alternative photographic processes. She taught at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA before landing back in Kansas City at Avila University.

Her work is an evolving conversation about process, merged with contemporary concepts. From painting and drawing to printmaking and sewing, she is able to create unique pieces that form a visual framework for the ideas that interest her and speak to that particular time in her life.

She has shown throughout the US in multiple exhibitions, both group and individual shows, and has a new solo exhibition opening in Omaha in September tilted Raising Them. This body of work showcases fiber arts that incorporate a traditional cyanotype process on repurposed clothing and explores the themes of motherhood and masculinity in today’s world.

This love for process and learning new things is what inspired her to become an educator, and passing on her passions for learning and excitement in creating are what drive her to be a better instructor.
